Qigong (pronounced CHEE GONG) involves breathing and stretching. Some call it “Chinese Yoga.”
People are not quite sure when Qigong began, but some stories say that it evolved around 3000 years ago from people bending, stretching and breathing deeply in the morning before beginning their work in the rice patties.
Deep breaths are important for energizing and healing the body. The American Medical Association says that many diseases come from our not breathing deeply enough. The Association recommends Tai Chi and Qigong because they have low stress on the body while creating maximum health benefits.
People often ask, “What is the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?” Tai Chi is more of a martial art and the practitioner moves across the floor with continuous movements. Qigong is more standing, stretching, and breathing deeply to enhance one’s overall health and energy.
